The Not-So-Fashionable Mom

Hi, friends!!!!  It's Thanksgiving week!!!!!!!!  So much to do, I'm kinda freaking out!!! We are hosting the traditional turkey meal on Thursday with my husband's side of the family.  Then on Sunday, we're hosting my side with a non-turkey meal (fried chicken from the famous Miller's Chicken in Athens, OH, and everyone is bringing a side, appetizer or dessert).  Wish me luck!!!!!!

So here is what I've been up to the past week....

This morning, I was working on all my lists: meal-planning, shopping, cleaning, and to-do!!!

I'm a huuuuuge chocolate lover.... and Jim knows it!  He brought this delicious chocolate cake/torte home to me after his late night work dinner:)

Mason looks thrilled in this pic, doesn't he?!!!  His preschool had an open house event on Friday:

The precious kiddos from my Sunday School class made these Thanksgiving tree crafts!  I got the idea from this Pinterest pin, and here is a downloadable version of mine. (I purchased the cute tree clipart from WincheasterLambourne on Etsy.)  The owl & pumpkin stickers are from Dollar Tree.

OH MY GOODNESS, this was the horrific sight of our "dining room" on Saturday before I cleaned it in preparation for Thanksgiving. I still have a few more things to tidy up before I post an "after" pic!!!;)

The kids loved jumping on the snowy trampoline!

Have a great week, my friends!  Keep me posted on all your Thanksgiving plans and activities! I love hearing from you!

Free Printable: Daisy Thank You Certificate

We love all those guests that come to our troop meetings to speak, the churches and schools that let us hold our meetings in their buildings, the parent volunteers, etc.!!! So here is a special Thank You certificate for those special people.  The girls can sign their names in the white space.

Click on the image above.  You will be directed to Google Drive.  Hover over the arrow icon at the top and click it to download the file. The "fill-in" feature of this PDF file will not work from the "view" mode, but should work once downloaded.

(NOTE: This is my first time posting a fillable PDF...I'm not sure if it will work exactly as it should for everyone, so worst case, you will just have to print it and write in the troop number, leaders, and date.)

Other levels may be coming soon...I'll need some feedback to see how this one is working for everyone!

In order to keep these printables FREE, I do not offer customization.  Please visit my Etsy shop for custom order inquiries and price quotes!

Designed by me. Turtle clipart is my own.  For your personal or troop use only.  Professional printing okay.

The Not-So-Fashionable Mom

Hi friends!!!!  It is a beauuuutiful snowy day here in central Ohio!!!  The kids had their first "snow day" and I can't even remember that last time we had a snow day in November!!!

So what have I been up to lately?.....

Goofing around with Mister:

This particular day was a challenging day for me.  I was having a bit of anxiety and stress, so I suggested to Mister that he run around the house to burn some energy.  He excitedly agreed!!!!!! I couldn't help but snap a pic of him running his little heart out!!!!

I went to girl scout leader training over the weekend. One of the classes I went to was about snacks related to the different journeys, so here are my "Ladybug Apples":

And I also attended a class about crafts to teach the girls.  I made a stick noisemaker, pipe cleaner button bracelet, and pumpkin seed and leaf necklace! I really loved this class!!!!!

Meanwhile, Jim took the kids to the Bobcats basketball game! Silly as always!!

Last night at Youth Group at church, some of the girls and I had some fun with Play-Doh!!!  You're never too old to enjoy Play-Doh, right?!!!!

Our beautiful snow this morning:

The kids were very excited to go outside and play!!!!!

This is tragic.  I accidentally left my precious plants outside on the screened-in porch last night.  I have a total of 3 plants that all originated from 2 plants, one from each of my grandmother's funerals. One is 10 years old, the other is 6. I'm not sure if they will make it....I'm so mad at myself for this.  I hope there is at least one little stem that survives so I can keep them going:(
(I'm kinda shocked they've survived this long!!!!!!)

Enjoy your week, my friends!!

How to Use a Printable Planner

Planners are not cheap!!!  So I love creating and printing my own pages and then I just insert them into a simple 3-ring binder.  This works great for me for many reasons:
1. There is plenty of room for the planner pages PLUS all the other "stuff" I need to keep track of on a weekly basis. I have additional tabs for my blog, Etsy shop, church, girl scouts, etc.
2.  I can customize my pages EXACTLY to my own style and practicality.  For example, I don't really need a month calendar in my planner.  We have a Shutterfly family calendar that we display for family birthdays, holidays, etc., as well as the iCalendar for all family members to view, so I really just need the week-to-week pages.
3.  I can print the pages as I need them AND remove pages as I'm done with them!  So my planner is never too heavy and always has just the right amount of pages that I prefer.
OH, one more thing....I can make them my own "Jamie" style, color and design!!!!

Soooo...how do I use this "printable planner"??? And what is my process to set it up, decorate, and fill it in? Here is a sneak peek..
THE PAGES
I prefer a weekly, two-page spread. I print it on Sunday afternoon and spend about a half hour filling it in, decorating it, and basically just planning out my week.  This includes everything from school work for the kids to dinners to birthdays and even the weather!

(For any of you who don't have the tools, patience, creativity, or time to create your own pages, DO NOT FEAR!! The one shown in the following pics is the freebie for November! And every month, check back for my newest free design!)

PREP & PLANNING
I really have fun with this process!!!  I set out all my gel pens and stickers....

...and my drawer of washi tape!!!!

FILLING IT IN
First, I fill in the dates.  Then the weather.  (This helps with deciding on jackets and shoes that the kids will be wearing to school during the week.) The weather stickers are from Dollar Tree.

Then I continue to fill in all the events that I know such as church, holidays, birthdays, classes/lessons, scouts, etc.

I use washi tape to block out school days for Mister, who is in preschool, a well as any large chunks of time where we have events or activities.  An old gift card works great to cut the tape!

Here is a little peek into the start to my planning process. By the end of the week, each day is filled with notes, to-dos, reminders, events....what I like to call "emptying my brain!"

Some prior weeks....
