Holiday Class Party Craft Idea!

Hi everyone!  I am excited to share a simple holiday class party craft with you.  It can work for all elementary ages, although you may wish to prepare some of the steps ahead of time for the younger kiddos.  I created this ornament idea specifically for my son's first grade class, so I did much of the prep work such as cutting, gluing and creating the "kits" prior to the party.

UPDATE: This craft was a huge success at the party!  I was impressed at how the first graders needed very little guidance...they pretty much figured it out on their own!  It only took about 5 minutes for them to complete (whew!).  The most challenging part was the little star rings, which could be left off.  Many of the kids took a yellow marker and colored the star topper.

Supplies needed:
Tree Cutouts on Green Paper (PDF Here) (Silhouette cut file here) - 2 per ornament
Wired Tinsel ribbon (3 feet per ornament)
Tape, Glue or Tape Runner
String & Scissors for ornament hanger (approx 10 inches per ornament)
Optional decorations:
Mini claw hair clips (also avail at Dollar Tree, Five Below, Walmart, etc)
Star hair rings
Wood Stars - Target Dollar Spot (Holiday 2017) or Star Stickers

INSTRUCTIONS:
1. Cut approx 10 inches of string to use for ornament hanger.  Glue or use a tape runner and attach the string to the top of one of the tree cutouts.  Glue the second tree cutout over top.  (For younger kids, complete this step ahead of time.)

2.  Tape the end of the tinsel ribbon to the back of the cutout.  Allow kids to wrap the tinsel ribbon any way they choose!  When complete, simply twist the wire to itself to attach.

3.  The kids will clip on the hair clips, star hair rings, stickers, etc. for decoration.

4.  Use tape, glue, or glue dots to attach a wood star or star sticker to the top of the tree.

5.  Don't forget to write child's name and year on the ornament!

Football Party on a Budget: Concession Stand Setup

Hi everyone!  I wanted to share some pictures from the Football Party we had for my son's 7th birthday over the weekend.  I took many of the Concession Stand ideas from Pinterest, purchased most of the decorations from Dollar Tree, created a couple banners, and used what we already had!  If you're planning a football party, Super Bowl party, tailgate party, etc., I hope you'll find some of these ideas useful!

Each guest had to "pay" for the concession stand items based on the "prices" above 😉. They loved it!!!!

Concession items included cotton candy, ring pops, chips, candy, soft pretzels w/cheese dip, popcorn, Gatorade, water and pizza.  My 5th grade daughter and her friends worked the stand, replenishing the food, taking "payment", making popcorn, etc.

Free Printable Kids To-Do Checklists

Hi everyone!  I have to share a major struggle I have as a Mom: getting my kids to do what they're told, especially before school and after school!!!  I'm going to guess that I'm not the only one???  So I started to think about what teachers do at school to keep the kids moving smoothly from task to task and accomplish all that needs to be done during the day.  I think it's simply a ROUTINE.  That's where I fail at home.  I thought that my kids would know by now what they need to do each and every day before and after school. I thought my kids would be familiar with their morning routine. I thought they would know that they need to eat breakfast, brush their teeth, check the lunch menu, etc.  But it was always a struggle!!! 😜😜😜

This has been a game-changer for us.  It does take a minute or two out of my mornings and afternoons to go and print this (usually tasks change day-to-day), but my kids wake up and immediately go to their list.  When they get off the bus, they come home and immediately go to their list.  Now I don't have to keep yelling saying "Make your bed!", "Brush your teeth!".....I just have to say "LIST!!!!" Hopefully we'll reach a point this year where we don't need the lists each day, but for now, I'm not going to stop the train!!  It's working, so we'll keep it going!!!

Free Printable Behavior Chart

Hi everyone!  My kids' teachers have always been really big on using behavior charts (some use Class Dojo, the electronic version), so I've tried at various times to implement the same idea at home.   My son is much more motivated by the chart than my daughter is, so I have found it very useful for him.  Here is a freebie version for you to try as well!!  I also have an emoji editable one in my shop.  Hang on the fridge and use magnets with the child's name to move the child "up" or "down" based on his/her behavior.   Clothes pins work well too (as shown in example below)!  We always start each day on Green - Good Day.

On a personal note, my kids started back to school yesterday!!!!  Can't believe it!  Mya is in 5th, Mason is in 1st.  Little brother isn't so little anymore!!! 😯
