One day I will miss tripping over those trucks, trains, & Barbies....

We have been dealing with a few "issues" in our house lately.  And they almost all have to do with the kids putting away their toys, cleaning their rooms, and hanging up clothes and coats and backpacks, etc.

I have tried every organizational system, bribery technique, new closet, bins, baskets, threats...you name it.  And every day there are still toys laying around the family room, living room, dining room, kitchen, playroom (which is great and I wish they would just stay down in the playroom!), bedrooms and even the master bathroom.

And then IT HIT ME LIKE A BRICK yesterday when I was getting ready to steam the kitchen floor!!!!

Someday I will miss this.  I actually got out my phone and snapped a picture.

It doesn't seem possible now and it seems like so far in the distant future.  But, one day I will have to look back to remember when there are fire trucks blocking the dishwasher and a Barbie hanging from the refrigerator door.  I am deciding right now that I will not get hung up on it.  I want our house to be a home.  I want our kids to have friends over and not worry about messing things up.  Yes, I want them to learn to take care of their belongings and be responsible and clean up after themselves.  But I'm not going to allow myself to get worked up and frustrated as I have in the past.  I'm going to miss this one day:)

Target Clearance Haul

Oh my gosh I love snatching stuff on clearance at Target!!!! Especially when it's something I was going there for specifically and there it is....for half the price I was expecting to pay!!!!

1. First is this ADORABLE mini binder!!!  I was looking for one to coordinate with a printable calendar set that I'm working on (sneak peek below), and this is perfect.  It was regularly $5.99 and I got it for $4.18.  They had 8.5x11 ones too that were just as cute, and I may have to go back and get a couple before they're gone!!

2. Boys long sleeved striped tops for only $3.50!!! These are still $7.00 on Target.com, so each store must have their own clearance items, and I was so excited to get these for Mason. I got the gray one like below, yellow and orange.

Circo® Boys' Long-Sleeve Tee - Assorted

3.  A top for myself, very similar to the boys ones for only $3.60. These are on clearance at Target.com for $10.20, so I got another great deal! I'm not normally to drawn to plain t-shirt style tops, but lately I have discovered that with some cute jewelry or a scarf, a top like this can look great! I wore it yesterday with a vest similar to this one.

Women's Ultimate Long Sleeve Ultimate Crew Tee

4. Lastly were these Post-it filing tabs.  I needed these for my calendar binder too.  The clearance price was $1.88 and the original price was $3.79!!!

When the iPhone Calendar Isn't Enough

We love the iCalendar...that fabulous calendar that we can link up to all our family devices: iMac, iPod, iPod, and iPhones!  That's where we input girl scout events, church events, evening meetings, kids classes & activities, and our favorite sports teams' games.  I had to force myself to use that calendar in the beginning because I was a paper-calendar person.  When I was in the corporate world, I always had a calendar open at my desk to record meetings and notes.  But I realized that I needed to at least try to go paperless and it works wonderfully for family activities or events that we all need to view.

However.....
Recently, I decided that I need to go back to writing things down.  This is mostly because my to-do list has been growing, and it's much quicker for me to scribble down my tasks on a piece of paper than open up the notepad app or calendar and type it in.  So I'm using a Weekly Planner page format.  It's basically just full of my to-dos for the day.  I write down my most important tasks related to my new Etsy shop, girl scouts, church, and working out.  Then I can cross it off when it's complete.

Does anyone else use a planner or weekly calendar besides the one on a computer or phone?  I have no idea if I'm alone on this!!!

Here is the one I made to use.  Download the FREE printable HERE or click on the image below.

The Miracle of Jewelry

Do you know some of those people who always look fabulous and put-together?  They always smell good and there's a sparkle about them?  Well, that "sparkle" is probably literally a sparkle!  I noticed a few years ago that those ladies who always seem to look fabulous aren't necessarily wearing anything better than I have in my closet....or you have in YOUR closet!  They just know how to wear their JEWELRY!!!!!

Yep, that's right.  It's all about the jewelry.  I tried the experiment myself with a plain black shirt.  I looked in the mirror to a major BLAHHHH!!!  Then the miracle happened.  With a pair of dangle earrings, flashy necklace, and a few layered bracelets, my entire outfit changed....and so did my confidence!!!!  I was shocked at how some plastic and non-precious metals could change me so much!

The great thing about jewelry as an accessory is that it doesn't have to cost very much.  Almost all my jewelry is just costume jewelry and ranges in price from my favorite beaded $2.00 clearance necklace up to some necklaces I have that retail for $150 from Lia Sophia (of course I scored them for only $20 or $30 thanks to hostess credit!).

Here are some of my favorites that look fabulous with plain tops:
Lia Sophia "Katie" necklace
$128 (or $25 as hostess bonus)
Lia Sophia "Panorama" necklace
In silver, gold, or hematite
$88 (or cheaper as a hostess!)
Stella & Dot "Adelaide" hoops
In silver or gold
$39

Valentine update

Yesterday we finished most of the Valentines!  We kept it simple this year....nothing fancy!!  For Mason's preschool class, we used the photo cards from Smilebox and put them in a bag with a Rice Krispy Treat.  For Mya's first grade class, we used the same cards but used the Gummy Bands candy (gluten & nut free).  Part of me wishes we had used some cute Valentine bags, but I already had the ziplocs, so we went with those!

Time: About 20 mins. to save and upload all the cards to Walgreens photo, About 25 mins. for Mya and me to put all the cards into a baggie with the candy
Cost: $6.79 to print 37 4x6 cards at Walgreens.com with same-day pickup

Simple Class Valentines

It's that time of year again....time for class Valentine's Day parties!!!  I love all the class parties and festivities.  When Mya was in preschool, we made these candy kabobs for the party, and they turned out so cute!!!  It's fun to go a little overboard when there are only 10 kids in the class!

Last year for kindergarten, we made these personalized cards on Smilebox.com!

Kids love seeing their own name!!!!  I had them printed as 4x6 photos at Walgreens and Mya signed her name with a Sharpie.  We attached a pack of fruit snacks with a ribbon to it in the top right where the heart is.  This year Mya is at a different school, so we are using the same ones again!  I love Smilebox (I have the paid subscription.  It's not expensive at all, and I definitely get my money's worth).  As much as I enjoy creating my own printables and cards, there are many times that I just like to use something that is already done for me.  Plus, they have a great iPhone/iPad app that's fabulous for texting and emailing cards and photos right from your phone or iPad!!!
